The Sensational Blues Burglars - Chicago Blues at its best

CDs and music

The Blues Burglars 12 track CD album, Live at the Compass Club, recorded at the excellent Compass Club run by Whitby Musicport on Fridays at The Resolution Hotel, has now sold out. We hope to be writing and recording some new material in the coming Months, but can't say more than that for now!

Two new downloads!

The band has chosen two songs for the site. The first is 'EVIL' by Chester Burnett, a song that we believe has had very little coverage by other blues bands or artists (if anyone can give us chapter and verse on that we'd be very grateful). Maybe that's because they don't have a singer like Bill Sharp who can do it justice? This tune was part of the Whitby session and was recorded live from the mixing desk.

The second song is a Blues Burglars immediate/improvised composition 'SO LONG BLUES', with a beautiful and mournful lyric from Bill (which he assures us is not autobiographical...). As often happens, the band came up with the song after a fairly abortive afternoon of recording - with only a few minutes left the only items agreed were that the song should be in B flat and a slow blues - all things considered we think the result is very reasonable.
(Technical note: Recording conditions for this song were slightly more primitive - 7 channels being mixed live to 4-track minidisc by Martin, in the pub, in between playing his harp parts. But we think it helped to create a 60's Chicago-style sound - indeed, the back room at The Black Bull in Blaydon has a good 60's blues room feel!)

Any feedback on the songs would be welcomed, please email us via the link at the left-hand side.
